Chilly Weather and Chicken Chili
It's been a few days.... In that time, the weather has changed pretty dramatically in North Central Texas; from 90-degree temps during the day to low 40s at night and very high winds. That cold front they promised us has definitely blown in. Even had to turn the heat on for that first night and it's only Halloween. Makes me wonder what Thanksgiving will be like, never mind Christmas. Meanwhile, I've made my first batch of Chicken Chili for the season. Recipe follows. image fr

Chunky Chili v 1.0
Wicked Hot!!! I don't recommend this for the faint of heart. While I really enjoy hot spicey food, this may be a bit over the top even for me. Following is my recipe. Ingredients 2 lbs stew meat 2 14 oz cans (or equivalent) tomato sauce 1 regular can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chiles 1 can Rotel with lime and cilantro salt, white pepper, onion powder and garlic powder to taste chipotle powder to taste; caution this is where the bulk of the heat comes from olive oil or you

Chocolate Cream Cheese Pie 1.1
You may recall in an earlier post I described and gave the recipe for Chocolate Cream Cheese Pie 1.0 . I consider this pie to have been a failure on 2 counts: first, it is too chocolatey (!) and second, the texture and consistency are that of frosting, not pie. (For those who eat chocolate frosting out of the can, this could be the perfect recipe. You're welcome.) image by freepik.com Today I decided to alter the recipe to see if I could remedy both problems. I want the pie t

Too Much Chocolate and a Stuck Zipper
Today's adventure began yesterday with the start of Zipper Pouch 2.0. Continued to a new chocolate cream cheese pie. Ended with a stuck zipper and a pie that is too chocolate for me. Zipper Pouch 2.0 is a different style of zipper pouch from Zipper Pouch 1.0 as it has a sew in lining and boxed corners. It went pretty well for a while. The zipper went in OK and I checked to ensure that it would move freely. I top stitched the zipper BUT on one side didn't catch both the exteri

Creative Cooking
Sometimes, rarely, I get the urge to do something fun in the kitchen. Sadly, this does not extend to cooking dinner most days. Rather I prefer to cook up something tasty yet unusual (in my diet anyway). Toward that end, I made 2 tasty pies from my past last week and both were a bit disappointing. First some history. These pies have been popular in my family since the 1970s or 1980s. Every family get together featured one or both. The Lemon Cream Cheese Icebox Pie was my Dad's
