Which Fabric Markers?

Which fabric markers do you use? Following is a run-down on those I have tried but am dissatisfied with.
Chalk markers
Beautiful clear lines easy to see when stitching. They appear to be permanent as I have laundered repeatedly and not been able to get rid of the chalk. My conclusion: use only on the wrong side of the project.
Heat erasable pens
Nice clear lines. Ink disappears when touched with a hot iron. However, the ink is still there and will become visible again when it gets "cold enough." Data varies but there is some agreement that this is only a problem at below freezing temperatures. Ink does not wash out even with repeated attempts. My conclusion: use carefully on projects that will not be subjected to cold.
Dress makers pencils
Lines are not as clear as with the above options. Lines wash out to an extent but leave faint traces. My conclusion: again, use only on the wrong side of a project.
Air and Water erasable pens
Limited colors so lines may not be as visible on all colors of fabric. Will wash out in plain water if not ironed first. Detergent may set the ink making it permanent. My conclusion: use carefully and wash without detergent before pressing. I have not as yet tried removing marks with a damp cloth; this is supposed to work....
My conclusion from all of this is that there is no really good option for general use in marking fabrics for stitching. What do you think?
