Sewing Failures

I've not sewn anything in at least 10 years unless you count some free-form embroidery that I used to make covers for my handmade books. So I planned 2 projects to practice with.

First was a bathroom curtain. This was to replace and make use of the two towels I had hanging over a curtain rod in that window. Cutting the towels down went OK. Using my new-to-me second hand serger did not go so well. The machine just couldn't handle the thickness of the terry cloth -- 2 layers. I didn't even try to get my Mom's hand-me-down Singer to do it. So, fail number 1.

Then I planned a cloth basket with boxed corners, bound edges, and double-sided fusible foam for structure. The foam didn't adhere as it should have and, yes, I did follow the instructions. Then my Singer didn't want to sew through all those layers. So no more fusible foam for me. Next time, fusible fleece. And a walking foot to quilt the exterior first.

This makes me 0 for 2. Not a great start. But they were learning experiences. And I did successfully re-thread my serger in less than 15 minutes!
