Pyramid Zipper Pouch v 1.0

Today I needed a quick and easy project because I just wasn't feeling very creative. I have watched several YouTube videos on making pyramid pouches also known as triangle pouches, so I decided to try my hand at a small (Mistake 1) one.

The only real requirements are 2 pieces of fabric which are twice as long as they are wide, 1 zipper slightly longer than the width of the fabric, some kind of interfacing to give the bag structure, and your usual sewing tools.

Most of the videos I watched started with fabric which was cut to 5x10 inches. As I had quilted a fat quarter yesterday, I decided to use it for my pouch lining (Mistake 2) and a coordinating fabric for the exterior of the bag.

I added fusible fleece to the exterior fabric and cut my 2 pieces, one of each fabric.

The zipper came from my zippers by the yard stash. I chose a coordinating color and spent about 15 minutes trying to get the slider on.

Then I sewed the fabric to the zipper as I would with any other zipper pouch. This included top stitching which as tricky because of the size of the bag and the length of the zipper. I got it done but it isn't the best.

Finally, I followed the instructions about closing up the bag to form the pyramid. Unfortunately, I forgot to leave an opening to turn the bag right side out (Mistake 3.). Had to take out a few stitches then turn the bag. It was difficult to turn due to the double layer of fusible fleece -- one for the outer fabric and one of the quilted inner fabric.

Once I had the bag turned I had to poke out the corners. The top corner was difficult due to the bulk added by the fusible fleece and the zipper. At this point I noticed that I had put the zipper in upside down. It is supposed to close toward the top, not toward the bottom (Mistake 4.).

Finally (again), I had to stitch up the opening in the lining. Way difficult due to the size of the bag and the fusible fleece. It was at this point that I realized I had forgotten the little loop at the top of the bag which is supposed to make it possible to hang the bag off a key chain or something (Mistake 5).

<sigh> So much for my quick easy project. Not quick. Not easy. And ultimately, not very satisfying. All I can say is that it is indeed a Pyramid Zipper Pouch.

Eventually, I will try v 1.1 but not today.
